The Book Thief
Written by Markus Zusak
My son was 9-years-old when I picked up this book. My hopes were of enticing him towards more challenging reads by exploiting his fascination with history and World War II. The Book Thief was a recommendation based on criteria I presented, but while perusing I discovered it was well beyond his reading level, so set it aside.
Last week, I hastily packed The Book Thief into my carry-on bag, determined to read something unrelated to work while traveling the Pacific Northwest. Wonderfully, every moment away was spent visiting loved ones and re-visiting loved places, leaving no time for reading (or working) until my return to the Mid-West.
