Years ago, I found a used copy of this book in a stack of treasures at Smith Family, my favorite indie bookstore back in Oregon. By the next day I’d finished the story and mailed a copy off to my dad. The book has stuck with me and I think of it or reference it often. A true story, it highlights the thin line between brilliance and insanity.
If you are a word-lover, read this book. If your thing is history, criminology, human disorders, writing… read this book.
THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN
by Simon Winchester
Today is American Dictionary Day, celebrating the contributions of Noah Webster. Of course, THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN is the story of the Oxford Dictionary. But I recommend this read today and any day.
